Connection amidst Division
“We need leaders who manifest a moral capacity to embrace the nuance and complexity to which we’ve become allergic, come what may — to take a stand for progress, even if incremental or imperfect.” Darren Walker, CEO, Ford Foundation
“Philosopher Hannah Arendt says isolation breeds radicalization. You might be the person to puncture the social media algorithm, to sit in spaces of deep listening—and deep listening is an act of surrender. You risk being changed by what you hear. We don’t see those spaces modeled in the world around us. We have to create them in the spaces between us.” Valarie Kaur, Author & Activist
I started The Space In Between as a refreshing alternative to the escalating division & polarization in the world. The only way forward is to build our capacity to hold firm to our values while ALSO bridging divides that keep us apart. That is what this podcast is all about.
Your Host
HI, I’m Leigh morgan
I started this podcast to elevate the quality of civic discourse and amplify our collective ability to address hard societal issues in ways that bring people together across what can feel like deeply ingrained differences. That starts with affirming our own values, and building skill and practices to bridge divides. My podcast guests offer thoughtful perspectives on how to do this, and I draw on my own leadership lessons and life experiences as well.
A little more about me: I’ve had the good fortune of having built, scaled, and led some of the world’s most innovative, iconic and high performing organizations including the Gates Foundation, Genentech, and Nia Tero. I’ve done this in the private and public sectors, in C-suite operating and governance roles. My work has taken me around the globe and back again, and I’ve been blessed with working with amazing people from whom I’ve learned a lot.
I am often described as an organizational ‘Yoda’, and am told I have a knack for relating easily to folks from many different backgrounds. I am a servant leader at heart and love spirited conversations, dancing, cycling up steep mountains, and golfing despite a high handicap. I also love the outdoors, the arts, food, and spending time with my family, friends, and the many communities I am a part of.
